Graduate Admission
Applicants for the master's degree program in art at Ball State must meet the admission requirements of the university's Graduate School and then be formally admitted by the Department of Art. To be considered for an assistantship, students must submit their application in April for the following academic year.

Admission Criteria
Students applying for admission to the graduate program must have an undergraduate degree in art and a grade point average in art courses of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and they must pass a review by the Department of Art's graduate committee. The department has no admission quotas by race, gender, state of residence, or expressed discipline preference.

How to Apply
Interested students must submit an application for admission to the Graduate School and provide the following items to the Department of Art:

  • Letter expressing goals in pursuing the degree
  • Current resume
  • Transcripts for all college-level course work
  • Portfolio of artwork (submitted as 20 slides or in CD format)
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Supportive material such as research and publications
