Travel/Field Study: ArkItalia: 1992
ArkItalia 1992 focused on three main interdisciplinary areas:

  1. The Italian city: urban history, morphology, and planning system; traffic, housing and the historic center
  2. Historic preservation: legislation, policies, adaptive use, restoration, rehabilitation
  3. Architecture: urban space and buildings, typology, style/language, technology, practice

The program included an elective on historic preservation, a studio and the Internship Preparation course.

The preparations for the field studies included a series of lectures and research work on Italian cities, and the exhibition on Italian Historic Centers for Europe Year 1991-92. An exhibition of students' work was also held in the fall.

The 1992 work and contacts established in Italy led to the Sustainable Cities seminar in October 1993.
