Announcements/Events
I Joe Young, president of Colleges Against Cancer, discussed Relay for Life. Relay for Life is an overnight event occurring April 18-19. This year's theme is "Celebrate, Remember, and Fight Back." The event will raise awareness about cancer and the importance of finding a cure. It will last 18 hours. Each team is made up of 12-20 members, with one person walking the track at all times. At Ball State, the track will be in Lafollette Field. In the beginning of the 18 hours, there will be a survivor's lap, which will give a chance for cancer survivors to walk their own lap. In addition, a Luminary Ceremony will occur at sundown. For ten dollars apiece, one will be able to buy a light and decorate it for someone that has been affected with cancer. To sign up at a team, anyone may go to www.events.cancer.org or http://cac.iweb.bsu.edu. Anyone with questions can contact Joe at jmyoung@bsu.edu.
II Ball State graduate, Major Robin Harrold of the US Army came and spoke about the benefits about joining the United States Army. She has spent 11 years in the army, specializing in obstetric nursing and has been to Colorado, Hawaii, Germany, California and Kentucky. She is currently attending U of Indianapolis to obtain her Master's degree. Some of the benefits she acquired through the army included tuition assistance, medical coverage, relocation assistance, and life insurance.
III April 4th and 19th is Preview Day for high school students, in which volunteers will talk to interested students about nursing and BSNA
IV April 21st will be the next meeting and the American Red Cross blood drive. Toni Fox is the coordinator. The drive will be on the second floor of the Atrium from 11 am to 5 pm. Volunteers are needed to work a couple of hours at a time, especially at the start and end of the event. Food will be provided for volunteers.
V April 22nd is Activity Day. A flight nurse will bring her helicopter to display in the quad. There will also be a cook out. Volunteers are needed to help with the event.
