Beth Kelsey has been an assistant professor in the School of Nursing since 1997 and is the Interim NP/DNP Program Director. She is a certified women’s health nurse practitioner who has worked for over 20 years in family planning, prenatal, and STD clinics serving primarily low income individuals.  She teaches graduate courses for the master’s program nurse practitioner track and the DNP program.  Beth has presented nationally and published on various women’s health topics.  She has served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health and is currently the president of Beta Rho Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.

Beth has a certificate in transcultural nursing from the University of Northern Colorado and has a strong interest in promoting cultural competency in nursing care.  She has been a co-leader for the school’s Jamaican field study experience and has traveled twice to Uzbekistan where she presented on women’s health care topics for nurses and other medical professionals.  In summer 2004, she was the leader for a nursing field study experience on the Hopi and Navajo Indian Reservations.  Beth’s doctoral dissertation topic was the Culture Care Values, Beliefs, and Practices of Mexican American Migrant Workers Related to Health Promoting Behaviors. 

Beth was the recipient of the Beta Rho Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau’s Excellence in Education Award in 2000 and the Ball State University School of Nursing Alumni’s 2003 Alumni of the Year Award.  She received a School of Nursing Outstanding Teacher Award in 2004 and 2007.
