Models and Strategies in Gifted Education

This course is designed to introduce you to the process of modifying, constructing, and evaluating programs and curriculum for gifted learners in your classroom. It will also assist you in developing a repertoire of instruction methods and strategies for this purpose.  To that end, the course will address both theoretical background and practical implications for dealing with differentiation of curriculum for gifted learners in a variety of settings.

Development of Creative Thinking

Theories and Strategies for fostering the creative self and developing creative thinking.  Analyzes the effects of personality characteristics and of various biological, cognitive, motivational and environmental conditions on the development of the creative behavior.

Identification and Evaluation of Gifted and Talented Students

Explores in-depth past and current practices of identifying gifted students.   Topics also include measurements and assessment issues implicit in their identification process of gifted students and their programs. One of the requirements for the gifted and talented license.

Investigating the Social and Emotional Needs of gifted Students

This internet based course explores the theories that explain the social and emotional experiences of gifted children and adolescents.  Emphasis will be placed on understanding the lived experiences of gifted children, as well as, interventions and curricular strategies that can be employed within various educational environments.
