Ball State student designers, stylists will show off skills at "Fashionably Late."
MUNCIE -- Clothing styled on a mannequin might be a store's interpretation of what looks good together, but give a Ball State University fashion merchandising student the chance to mix things up a bit, and they'll come up with something that's in touch with what students want.
"We have a vision of our target market that we're trying to represent at the show," Ball State student Kate Vandeputte said.
Vandeputte is just one student from the upper-level fashion merchandising class who's helping to organize the "Fashionably Late" fashion show at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Horizon Convention Center.
There, students from the class will show off their styling abilities. And others, who aspire to be fashion designers, will present their own designs. The clothes will be modeled by about 35 of 100 students who were selected at an open call.
The show won't just give experience to designers, stylists and models, though. The show is also raising money for charity, with proceeds going to Little Red Door.
The class voted to help the organization that assists those with cancer after each students presented ideas, student Kayla Couch said. They expect to donate around $1,500 that they raised through ticket sales, which are available for $5 today and $8 at the door.
The owner of Village Green, Travis Harvey, will DJ the show. Vandeputte said Harvey researched music that is used for "real" fashion shows.
"(The show) has the potential to be one of the best shows we've ever had through Ball State," she said.
