I majored in Hospitality and Food Management because I wanted to open a restaurant later in life, and I really felt liked and appreciated when I came to see the program at Ball State. I knew from my campus visit that Ball State was the school I wanted and Family and Consumer Science was the place for me.
During my four years I participated in many activities, including the Food and Hospitality Management Association, of which I was president during my senior year. I was also a member of several honor societies including Phi Upsilon Omicron (FCS), Omicron Delta Kappa (Leadership and Service Learning), Golden Key (General Honorary), and Alpha Lambda Delta (freshman and sophomore honor society). I volunteered and participated in many service projects through these organizations. I was in Sigma Kappa sorority for two years and served as its vice president of alumni relations and, for a short time, as executive vice president.
The importance of this award is hard to put into words. It is very special and I am honored. I accept the responsibility of being chosen as a special graduate. I plan to be an involved alumna and to give back to the programs which have meant so much to me as an undergraduate.
The experiences I have found most useful while getting my degree were the friends I made and the fun times I have had with them. I am lucky I chose a major that had a great association and so many enrichment trips. I really enjoyed the trips to the National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago, and to restaurants and hotels in Indianapolis. I also appreciate the career development I've had in this department.
Thanks again for the award.
