Family Studies

Family and Child

The Family Studies option prepares students for careers which focus on the well-being and healthy development of individuals and families across the life-span recognizing that individuals and families are influenced by the larger society and the time period in which they live.

The Family Studies curriculum has been developed to meet the academic requirements to become a Certified Family Life Educator, a national certification program sponsored by the National Council on Family Relations.  Family Life Education incorporates a preventative and educational approach to individual and family issues, such as communication and relationship skills, parenting education, marriage education, diversity and social issues as they relate to the family.  For additional information about the CFLE Program go to www.ncfr.org/cfle/

Incoming or trasferring students can no longer major in the Family and Child.  That option has been separated into a Family Studies option and a Child Development option.  Students, however, can double major in the two options, provided they complete the required courses for each option and complete an internship in each option.
