Indiana’s Unemployment Fund Getting Attention

(STATEHOUSE) – A proposed refiguring of unemployment benefits is on a fast track at the statehouse. Senate President Pro Tem David Long says his chamber will take up the proposal to wrench the unemployment fund back in balance as soon as the house passes it.

House Democrats opposed any benefit cuts in 2009 and still do. But Democrats are now the minority party in the House, and Republicans approved the plan in committee this week on a party-line vote. The bill envisions full repayment of the loan in nine years, six years later than under the original plan.
