Special Education Services Changing in Kokomo Schools

(KOKOMO) – A 40-YEAR PROGRAM PROVIDING SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THREE NORTH CENTRAL INDIANA COUNTIES WILL CHANGE IN THE UPCOMING YEAR. KOKOMO- CENTER SCHOOLS IN HOWARD COUNTY IS LEAVING THE KOKOMO AREA SPECIAL EDUCATION COOPERATIVE, EFFECTIVE IN 2012. THE CO-OP HAD SERVED SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS FOR STUDENTS IN ALL 4 HOWARD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS, THE TWO IN TIPTON COUNTY AND ONE IN MIAMI COUNTY. KOKOMO SCHOOLS WILL WORK WITH KIDS IN THEIR OWN DISTRICT ONLY. WESTERNS SCHOOLS IN HOWARD COUNTY WILL BECOME THE LEAD AGENCY FOR THE CO-OP.
