Americans now ow more on their college loans than they do on their credit cards — nearly $870 billion. At the same time, sate governments and national foundations are setting lofty goals for universities to churn out more graduates. Higher education policy experts worry the country’s burgeoning student debt load will make it really hard for colleges to meet those goals. StateImpact Indiana’s Kyle Stokes sat down with an Indiana University junior who’s already $18,000 in debt and unsure whether she’ll have enough money to finish her degree.
