US Senate candidates Mourdock and Donnelly address Lugar primary upset

by Brandon Smith

May 9, 2012

In the wake of his primary victory over Richard Lugar, Senate candidate Richard Mourdock today sought to establish himself as a mainstream Republican…  rather than someone on the extreme edge of his party.  Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Brandon Smith reports.

Also today, Democratic US Senate candidate Joe Donnelly praised Lugar for his long service to Indiana.  Donnelly was unchallenged in his primary and he will face Mourdock in November’s election.  He says Mourdock’s stated unwillingness to compromise is unacceptable.

Donnelly says that position will only stall progress in an already divisive Congress.  Mourdock says he has the backing of national Republicans in the campaign… while Donnelly says he expects Democratic organizations to target the race as well.
