StateImpact Indiana: Tax Caps

A statewide cap on property taxes recently voted into Indiana’s constitution may have lowered your tax bill — but for the second straight year, it’s costing school districts millions of dollars in revenues.   This year though, the schools hit hardest by the caps qualify for state help in balancing their budgets.   That’s because of a remedy state lawmakers passed through the General Assembly last session.   But as StateImpact Indiana’s Kyle Stokes reports, few districts are taking advantage of the remedy, and the property tax caps are still causing pain in some classrooms.
