Opponents of nationally-crafted academic standards known as the Common Core claimed victory on the General Assembly’s final day in session last week. Late Friday night, the Indiana House passed a bill designed to put any further rollout of the standards on hold — pending public hearings and a legislative review of the Common Core. There are still many open questions about the bill. And, teachers in Indiana’s kindergarten and first grade classrooms are already using the standards in crafting their lessons.
