High school students at the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities have spent the last two weeks creating their own Egyptian tomb in the basement of the high school at Ball State University. IPR’s Stephanie Wiechmann reports.

International students learn English at International Conversation Hour

StateImpact Indiana: A to F Rewrite

Indiana education officials will soon re-write the formula state leaders use to assign letter grade ratings to schools — again. Barely a year ago, the State Board of Education approved new rules for identifying the best- and worst-performing schools in Indiana. Now, the General Assembly has given state officials until November to try again. Among the groups hoping to add their input during the state’s re-write process: an AP Statistics class at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. They asked StateImpact Indiana’s Kyle Stokes to help them get started.

Indiana will take part in government prayer case

State Attorney General Greg Zoeller says Indiana will likely play a leading role in a U-S Supreme Court case involving government prayer. As Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Brandon Smith reports, it’s not the first time Indiana has dealt with the issue in court.

Muncie Children’s Museum free day attracts all ages of race fans

Race fans of a younger age gathered at the Muncie Children’s Museum on Saturday to spend the day pretending to be out on the race track. The museum saw more than three hundred visitors for their once-a-month free Saturday. IPR’s Jason Puhr reports.

Free bikes on the Cardinal Greenway

With the warm weather of summer, Indiana residents are once again using the 62-mile Cardinal Greenway to explore nature and get healthy. Greenway visitors who don’t own a bicycle can borrow one to use on the trail. IPR’s Safarali Saydshoev reports.

StateImpact Indiana: Common Core Pause

Three years ago, Indiana was one of the first states to sign on to new academic standards known as the Common Core. Now it could be the first state to pull out after legislation pausing implementation of the nationally-crafted standards passed the General Assembly. But as Common Core opponents celebrated an improbable, last-minute victory, teachers questioned how taking a timeout will affect schools already adopting the new standards. As StateImpact Indiana’s Elle Moxley reports, what the pause means depends on who you ask.

State releases I-READ 3 exam results

The Indiana Department of Education has released results of the statewide third grade reading exam. StateImpact Indiana’s Elle Moxley reports.

In Muncie Community Schools, about 77 percent of third graders passed the I-READ exam. This is the same percentage as last year. In Anderson Community School Corporation, 71 percent of third graders passed the reading exam. This is a nine-percent drop from last year. In Indianapolis, 66 percent of students in the state’s largest school corporation passed the I-READ 3.
