September 21, 2010
Indiana’s August unemployment rate had no change from July, staying at 10.2 percent. Last month, Indiana added three thousand private sector jobs… and showed strong hiring in the healthcare field and for temporary jobs. State officials say that new unemployment claims in the Hoosier state are dropping at the fastest rate in the nation. In the IPR area, all counties showed lower unemployment numbers… except Adams County, which stayed even with July numbers. Most counties showed unemployment rates between 8 and 12 percent. Once again, Hamilton and Fayette counties show the lowest and highest rates, respectively. Hamilton has a 7 percent unemployment rate. Fayette County unemployment sits at 13.5 percent. Indiana ranks counties by unemployment rates… and six IPR counties fall into the list for the ten most unemployed counties. They are Fayette, Blackford, Henry, Howard, Grant… and Wayne. Statewide, the Indiana unemployment rate is still above the national rate of 9.6 percent.
