Indiana’s unemployment rate grew slightly in December — a point-two percent increase to 8.2 percent. Today’s report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development says the state added 8,300 private sector jobs. State Workforce Development Commissioner Scott Sanders says the rate increase comes from the more than 7,000 unemployed Hoosiers who are beginning again to look for work. Ball State economist Michael Hicks says people returning to the job hunt is a sign that Hoosiers are more confident in the job market. The US unemployment rate for December remained the same as November at 7.8 percent.
