Poverty Awareness: Introduction to the Week
by Marcus Jackman
March 12, 2012
This week is Poverty Awareness Week in Delaware County. It’s filled with eight days of workshops, discussions, and tours designed to highlight the problem and pervasiveness of poverty in the surrounding communities. The events are coordinated by Teamwork for Quality Living. Molly Flodder is Teamwork’s Executive Director. She says many people mistakenly believe that everyone living in poverty is happy to do so – and that the poor would rather receive handouts than pay their own way.
Flodder says the eight-day awareness drive features education, health, and business forums to explore the problems of poverty can be overcome. These include poverty simulations and food drives.
