Michael L. Johnston was employed for many years in logistics and transportation ranging from General Motors to a company in Houston, Texas to Manufacturers Transport,Inc., a minority-owned family business in Indianapolis. He retired in May, 2007 and now volunteers at the Minnetrista Cultural Center and the Back to School Teacher's Store in Muncie.

Mike received his bachelor and master degrees in business administration and marketing from Ball State and served for 20 years as an adjunct professor of international transportation for the Department of Marketing in Ball State's Miller College of Business.

Mike's volunteer service to Ball State is well-known in the campus community. In addition to the Friends' Board of Governors, he serves on the Beneficence Society Advisory Committee, the National Philanthropy Council of the Ball State University Foundation and as current president of BSU Women's Basketball Cardinal Court Club. He and his wife, Jackie, donated several contemporary works of art to the University Libraries in memory of their son, Michael Gregory Johnston.

The Johnston's have two sons and three grandchildren.
