The Jennifer D. Strother Scholarship was established by Muncie residents Edward and Jeanne Strother with an initial gift of $82,000.
The fund provides one scholarship a year toward tuition for an undergraduate freshman who has graduated from Burris Laboratory School.
Jennifer, who died in 2002 at age 45, was a former Muncie resident and a Burris graduate. She received degrees from Wellesley College, the University of Washington and a doctorate in medicine from the Albert Einstein School of Medicine.
She served a residency in pathology in the teaching hospitals allied with the University of Southern California at San Diego and one in psychiatry at the New York University Hospital in New York City. At the time of her illness, she was employed as a psychiatrist at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Manhattan.
When the scholarship is available to be awarded, it will be listed on Ball State's Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid Web site at www.bsu.edu/finaid.
