Music Instruction Building, parking garage near completion (8/24/2004)
As students and faculty return to Ball State University, they will find a number of construction projects in various stages of completion.

Some of the major projects are:

  • The $21 million Music Instruction Building (MIB) is nearly complete and will open on schedule. The construction fencing is gone, the site work is nearly finished, faculty members have moved in and a grand opening concert featuring Midori and McDonald (www.bsu.edu/news/article/0,,22019--,00.html) will take place 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 in the David and Mary Jane Sursa Performance Hall (www.bsu.edu/update/article/0,,16059--,00.html).
  • The McKinley Avenue Garage south of MIB will be finished in late October. The new structure will add 600 parking spots to campus.
  • To make the Student Center Parking Garage more visitor friendly, open or metered parking has been moved to the ground floor. The 2nd and 3rd floors will be reserved for all patrons with red parking passes (R-8). The top floor will be available to commuter students for an additional fee per semester. Handicap-accessible parking will remain on the ground floor.
  • Woodworth Drive has been converted to a two-way street. The permanent conversion will help ease traffic congestion during the anticipated construction of a proposed residence hall, which must be approved by the university's board of trustees.
  • Emens Parking Garage's exits and entrances have been rearranged. An exit and entrance have been added to the garage's north side. The east exit and entrance have been closed. The southwest entrance will remain open. The reconfiguration is due to the anticipated construction of the proposed residence hall.
