Danielle Frazier, a junior from New Palestine, has been appointed to the Ball State Board of Trustees by Gov. Mitch Daniels.

Frazier, who is majoring in elementary education, replaces Kyle Mitchell of Fishers, who graduated in May. Her two-year appointment begins immediately.

"We have taken great care to select Hoosiers who are willing to serve in leadership positions at our colleges and universities," Daniels said. "Our universities must play a crucial role in Indiana's economic growth and are critical to preparing the next generation for the knowledge economy."

Since coming to Ball State, Frazier has been very involved. She has been active in residence hall activities, the Office of Leadership and Service Learning, Alternative Breaks Advisory Board and the Excellence in Leadership program. She is also serving as the incoming president of Student Voluntary Services and has just completed a two-year term in AmeriCorps.

"I always knew I wanted to get as involved as possible at Ball State," Frazier said. "But I wasn't sure I would get the board position; I wasn't sure I was qualified."

One of her mentors, Daniel Stallings, Ball State's former director of Leadership and Service Learning, encouraged and guided her through the entire process. Once she began the formal interview process, she was able to relax and be herself, she said.

"I had nothing to lose and everything to gain," Frazier said. "During my time at Ball State, I have developed a greater appreciation for higher education and have learned a great deal as to how an institution of higher learning functions. I look forward to joining the board, to learning from the other trustees and to coming into my own as a contributing member."

One of her first congratulatory phone calls came from Ball State President Jo Ann M. Gora.

"Students provide a valuable perspective in the deliberations of the board of trustees," Gora said. "Her appointment adds to an impressive list of leadership roles in which Danielle has served during her first two years at Ball State.
