The gift from J.D. Wickersham, who died in 2005, will create the Janet Wickersham and J.D. Wickersham Scholarship Fund and the Hazel Hardwick and J.D. Wickersham Scholarship Fund to provide financial assistance for undergraduate students studying elementary or secondary education. Janet Wickersham was his wife and Hazel Hardwick Wickersham was his mother.
J.D. Wickersham received a bachelor's degree in social work and a master's degree in education in 1954 from Ball State. He worked for Richmond Community Schools for 36 years in audiovisual education and as an elementary school teacher.
During their retirement, J.D. and Janet Wickersham served for two years in the Peace Corps on the Caribbean island of Antigua. She was a primary school consultant, and he worked in the Antigua National Archives doing audiovisual education training.
