Chemistry scholarship created to honor retired professor Park Wiseman (2/13/2008)
A $25,000 scholarship fund has been established by Dr. Robert and Carlene Reed of Owensboro, Ky., in honor of Park Wiseman, a Ball State University chemistry professor emeritus.

The Dr. Park Wiseman Scholarship will provide scholarships to students majoring or minoring in chemistry with sophomore standing or above. As a former student, Robert Reed said that meeting Wiseman had a great impact on his life.

Wiseman joined the Ball State faculty in 1947 and became the first chairman of the chemistry department when it was formed in 1965.

Robert Reed graduated from Ball State in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and chemistry education and earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1965. A former Air Force flight surgeon, Reed has practiced internal medicine, and from 1988 until his retirement in 2006, he practiced cardiology at Daviess County Hospital in Owensboro.

Carlene Reed served on the Indiana School for the Blind Advisory Committee from 1971 through 1983 at the request of two successive governors. Gov. Robert Orr awarded her a Sagamore of the Wabash in 1983.

Availability of this scholarship fund is dependent upon an award selection process established by Ball State and its academic departments. For specifics about this scholarship, contact the chemistry department at 765-285-8060.
