When should I begin thinking about my internship?
You should be thinking about your internship from the time you start the program. The semester prior to completing your internship you must meet with the Internship Coordinator and attend 2-3 Prospective Intern Seminars.

Who do I see about the internship?
You need to contact the Internship Coordinator, Mrs. Susan Clark.

Do I need to prepare before I see the Internship Coordinator?
Yes. You need to attend the first Prospective Intern Summer Meeting, download a copy of the Internship Handbook from this website, and bring your completed application, along with a copy of your current resume and current DAPR to the appointment with the Internship Coordinator.

Are there restrictions on where I can go to do my internship?
No, as long as the internship has been approved by the Internship Coordinator and appropriate agency personnel.

Is the internship paid?
Typically no. It is more difficult to find a paid internship. However, some level of "stipend" may be offered at some agencies

Is there a prerequisite?
In order to enroll in HSC 479 or 480, health science majors must have taken a minimum of 25 credit hours in health science, and must earn a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5 in the following health science courses: HSC 200, 300, 385, 387, 394, and 396; HSC 363 or 462 or 464. 
Students earning minors in community health education, environmental health, or public health must have completed all minor requirements, with a cumulative grade-point average of 2.5 in those requirements, in order to enroll in HSC 479 or 480.

How much time does the internship take?
The internship for majors is for 360 clock hours. The internship for minors is 180 clock hours.

Is the internship required?
Undergraduates are required to do an internship.

How long is the internship?
The internship for majors typically lasts 10-12 weeks while a minor can expect an internship of 5-6 weeks.

How many credit hours will I earn?
Majors earn 6 credit hours; minors earn 3 credit hours.

Do I have to interview with an agency to get an internship?
Yes. Typically, the university Internship Coordinator (Mrs. Clark) makes the first contact to determine interest of the agency. Students then schedule an appointment for the interview.

How do I dress for the interview?
Business clothes are preferred.

Following the interview, do I need to do anything?
Yes. It is most appropriate to send a thank you note regardless of whether or not you intend to complete the internship at the agency. It is also necessary to inform the university Internship Coordinator about your intentions regarding the prospective internship.
