Assistant Professor in Health Science-California State, Long Beach (11/5/2008)
California State University, Long Beach is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor position in their Health Science Department. This is an tenure track faculty opening and is effective August 24, 2009. Salary range commensurates with background and experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctoral degree in health education, health promotion, or a closely related field.
  • Ability to teach in at least three of the following areas: Teacher Preparation in Health Science/Education, School Health Education, Curriculum Development, Adolescent Health.
  • Must have record of scholarly publications and grant awards or the potential for scholarly publications and grant awards commensurate with years of post-doctoral experience.
  • Experienced applicants must have documented prior teaching experience at the undergraduate and in teacher preparation.
  • Recent graduates must have ability and interest to teach at these levels.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse community.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

CHES certification. K-12 Teaching Credential helpful. Practical experience in school health education setting or as K-12 teacher and/or experience in higher education teacher preparation.

Position Duties

  • Instruct in a variety of health science/education undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Supervision and/or advising of health science students and student teachers.
  • Engage in scholarly activities.
  • Provide service to the department, campus, and professional public health community.
