Genetic Data Analyst-The Duke Center for Human Genetics (12/10/2008)
Position Description
The Duke Center for Human Genetics (CHG) has an immediate opening for a Genetic Data Analyst. This is a position in one of the largest human genetic research laboratories in the country. CHG investigators study the genetic epidemiology of multiple complex human phenotypes, such as glaucoma and other eye diseases, developmental, neurologic and psychiatric disorders, as well as cardiovascular and metabolic disease. This position will be responsible for analyzing a wide range of genetic-epidemiologic research projects (including datasets of related and/or unrelated individuals) under the direction of a CHG faculty member.

Position Requirements
The successful applicant must be familiar with commercial statistical software packages (e.g. SAS) and willing to learn new analytical techniques implemented in a variety of non-commercial statistical-genetic software. Genetic analysis methods include pedigree linkage analysis, association analysis and analysis of gene expression data.

The successful applicant will be involved in developing practical procedures for the collection and management of the data and in preparing summary reports and scientific publications. Flexibility in using a variety of computer platforms is necessary.

A Master’s degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics or a related field is required.

Previous experience in statistical-genetic analyses is an advantage, but not a requirement.
