Safety Certifications & Education
The Health and Safety program area offers safety classes for Ball State affiliates and the Muncie community. Classes include CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Adult, Child, and Infant Lay Responder CPR, and Lifeguarding.

If you want to pay for a certificaiton registration with a credit card (Visa, Mastercard or Discover), please click the register links under the certification of your choice. If you would like to pay with cash, check or wellness voucher (professional staff only), then stop by the Main Office between 7:30am-6pm Monday-Friday.
ACI CPR with AED and First Aid
Learn the skills necessary to recognize and provide care for life-threatening breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults, children and infants. Upon completion of this course, participants will receive certification, which is valid for 2 years.
Time: 12:00 pm - 5:00pm

CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED and First Aid
Learn the skills professional rescuers use to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies based on ECC 2005 guidelines. Upon successful completion of this course, participants receive American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider (r.06) certification, which is valid for 2 years.
Time: 9:00am - 4:00pm

Recreation Services is excited to offer basic lifeguarding and water rescue skills to all interested patrons. This class includes CPR, AED, and Oxygen Administration certifications.** Must be 15 years of age to participate and must attend all days of training.
Time: Fri: 4-8pm, Sat/Sun: 12-6pm
Dates: April 4-6 and April 11-13
Location: Lewellen Pool & HP 251
Lifeguarding - Star Guard
Star Guard lifeguard (includes: ASHI CPR Pro, Basic first-aid, blood borne pathogens). Blended option is available where students due on-line portion along with 4-6 hours of hands-on portion
Pre-Requisites for students: Students must be able to complete all four tasks to continue in the class.
1. Swim 50 yards with head up for sighting, no stopping
2. Swim 50 yards with head up for sighting, with a rescue tube
3. Tread water for 1 minute without the use of hands
4. Retrieve weighted object off of the bottom of the deep end

Age Requirement: 16 (by the start of the class)

This course does not meet the guidelines for those wishing to work for the Office of Recreation Services.

Are you and education major? Nursing major? Need to prepare for that upcoming job? Do you need to get re-certified in Adult/Child/Infant CPR or CPR for the Professional and don't have time to fit a class in on our schedule? How about scheduling when you are available? The only times Recreation Services will issue refunds are for the following:
-Recreation Services cancels the class due to lack of enrollment
-Participants relocate from the university
-Participants have a documented medical issue that prevents them from participating
