Academic Support Services for Student Athletes
Learning Center

Study Table Program

The term "Study Table" refers to a set number of hours that student athletes must complete each week.  The number of hours is a joint decision between coaches and the Support Staff.   All new students will participate in Study Table during their first term at Ball State unless excused by their coach.  Coaches decide the criteria for study table graduation and address study table violations.  All study table hours must be completed by Friday at 2:00pm.  If a student athlete is gone due to competition, they are responsible for getting their work to Support Services by the deadline. Academic Support Services uses sport codes to help organize student athletes.  Placing an incorrect sport code on an attendance sheet will result in no credit.

Methods for Completing Study Table Hours

Student athletes can choose when, and how to complete their study table hours (working around classes, meals, and practice), unless they are assigned specific times or methods by their coach or the Academic Support staff.

1.)   Supervised Quiet Study Sessions

Day:     Monday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm in Bracken Library on the 3rd floor West

Night:    Sunday thru Thursday from 8:10 pm to 10:00 pm in Carmichael Hall Rooms 202 and 203.  No cell phones, food, laptops/pc, music devices, palm pilots, pagers, tobacco, or disrupting paraphernalia is allowed in any quiet study session (drinks in a "no spill" container allowed nights)

Any use of disrupting paraphernalia (especially phones) during the first hour of evening study table will result in the loss of that hour and the offender will not be allowed to attend the second hour.  Any use during the second evening hour will result in the loss of that hour (the first hour will not be taken away if it was attended).  Any use during the day will result in immediate loss of library hours for that day, and loss of library availability for the remainder of the day.   Coaches will be notified if hours are taken due to these disruptions.

Only study materials should be present.  Magazines assigned for class will be allowed.

  • Anyone skipping class to attend study tables will lose those hours and coaches will be notified.
  • Please turn hats backwards or take off while studying.  All book bags etc. should be off tables.
  • Library-one person to a table. Carmichael – sit in every other seat.
