Health
  • Ball State is one of the few universities offering programs in gerontology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and was recognized for offering the "most comprehensive graduate gerontology program in the state" by Derek Stepp, executive director of the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education.
  • The Human Performance Lab is internationally renowned for studying exercise and its effects on human physiology. The center's researchers are working with NASA astronauts and Russian cosmonauts to study the effects of long space missions on muscle tissue.
  • Nursing students continue a tradition of outstanding performance on licensing examinations, including a nearly 100 percent pass rate. In 2007, 100 percent of our nurse practitioner graduates passed the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners certification exams for adults and families, exceeding the respective national pass rates of 90 and 83 percent.
Technology

  • Ball State has the only Plastics Research and Education Center among four-year colleges in Indiana that offers plastics courses in a manufacturing engineering technology program.
  • Ball State's technology education program is nationally recognized by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.


Family and Consumer Sciences

  • Ball State's Department of Family and Consumer Sciences in 2007 earned a 10-year accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. About 20 percent of all college and university family and consumer science programs are able to earn the distinction.
  • In 2007, Ball State's Child Study Center was among the first 100 programs in the nation to become accredited under new stricter guidelines by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).   • Ball State students in the residential property management (RPM) program have consistently achieved 100 percent pass rate on two national certification exams. 2007 marked the fifth consecutive year every Ball State student taking the National Apartment Leasing Professional (NALP) exam passed. In addition, for the third semester in a row, every student who took the Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) exam passed. Ball State is the only university that offers students—typically sophomores and juniors—the opportunity to earn the NALP designation. Sports and Exercise
