Tom Kinghorn, vice president for business affairs and treasurer, was honored at a retirement reception on June 17. Earlier this year, Kinghorn announced he would be stepping down as vice president, a position he held for 29 years. The Ball State University Center for Energy Research/Education/Service has joined programs at more than 30 universities in the creation of the Council of Energy Research and Education Leaders (CEREL). The CEREL is a new leadership group committed to advancing the role of higher education in the energy field. It will provide an important forum for sharing experiences among universities in education and training the workforce and future leaders of the energy field.
Newest addition to campus to be called Thomas J. Kinghorn Hall
Ball State's newest residence hall, opening in fall 2010, will bear the name Thomas J. Kinghorn Hall, following a decision by the Board of Trustees to designate the building in honor of the university's longtime vice president for business affairs. FULL STORY

Ball State student Ellen Bryan (right) is tentatively scheduled to appear as a guest July 2 on Good Morning America in her role as national spokesperson for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) lightning safety awareness campaign. Bryan will talk about the plight of her older sister Christina, who has been unable to walk or speak since being struck by lightning nine years ago. LEARN MORE

Students Erin Chapman and Nick Respecki from the College of Architecture and Planning received an honorable mention for their work on "The Bio Rhythmic Charter School" as part of the ninth annual steel design student competition administered by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) and sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). Faculty sponsor for the project was Pamela Harwood, associate professor of architecture.
