Clyde F. Sportsman
Mr. Sportsman served in
Company F, 2nd Battalion, 26th
Infantry Regiment. He was posted to the
1st Division in 1943,
in time for the invasion of Sicily. He served in
the Big Red One through Normandy, the dash across Northern France, and
into the Hurtgen Forest. In was in this last battle that he received wounds
that required his evacuation to England, where he remained until VE day.
