A group of students

Faculty who lead our immersive learning experiences work with diverse teams of hard-working students to address the needs and challenges faced by a community partner, typically a small business or nonprofit organization.

As a mentor, you’ll have the opportunity to put your teaching and research into action, positively impacting our partners and strengthening the skills of passionate students.

How We Can Help

The Office of Immersive Learning provides support with:

  • project planning
  • identifying community partners and internal collaborators
  • proposal development
  • funding/budget and grant management
  • student recruitment
  • travel and purchasing procedures
  • technical support and equipment
  • assessment tools
  • identifying research and presentation opportunities.

In some cases, our staff can assist with intensive project management services such as contract development with external partners and publicity/showcase opportunities.

Need some guidance?

Our immersive learning project managers can provide one-on-one assistance in bringing your ideas to life. Contact the project manager assigned to your college to get started.

You may also contact your college’s representative on the Immersive Learning Advisory Committee for guidance and support.

Grants and Funding

Most faculty mentors embed immersive learning projects into existing classes, but when an instructor wants to develop a pilot project or a sustainable immersive course, internal funding can be helpful. Faculty can use these funds to pay for time buyouts, travel, supplies, equipment and more. Learn more about available grants and application processes here.
