Dr. Kristin Barry will discuss her research and in-process book titled Architecture and War: Propaganda, Destruction, and the use of the Built Environment in Waging Armed Conflict. The book focuses on the intersections of armed conflict and design, from the beginnings of conflict (cosmology, revolution, and colonization), in the throes of conflict (fortifications, cultural conflicts, and megalomania), and following conflict (marginalization/gentrification, memorials, rebuilding). Dr. Barry’s research presents the relationship between design and conflict inter-chronological and cross-connective through repeated patterns and sequences.

Join us for a ceremony and reception to celebrate the naming of the University Libraries Paul W. Stout Map Collection. Paul Stout served as the map librarian for Ball State University from 1976 until his retirement in 2003. He was a dedicated librarian and cartographer whose commitment to building and preserving unique and interesting maps and atlases gave the University Libraries the extensive collection used by students and faculty today. Remarks will begin at 6:30 in the GIS Research and Map Collection on Bracken Library's 2nd floor. Refreshments will be served.
