Addressing Maternal Mental Health in Delaware County through a Community-University Partnership

Session Description: This presentation will focus on a community-engaged approach to increasing access to trained mental health support for women experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). This research explores the effects of peer interventions on symptoms of PMADs specifically through the development of student-run counseling groups and the training of certified peer support specialists with a focus on maternal mental health.

Dr. Kalyn Renbarger


About Kalyn Renbarger: She is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing. She received her PhD from Indiana University in June 2020. Her clinical practice and research interests include maternal-child health. Kalyn has focused her research on maternal mental health, maternal substance use, neonatal abstinence syndrome, maternal mortality, and infant mortality. She is particularly interested in reducing stigma and negative health care experiences for women with substance use disorders in efforts to improve maternal-child health outcomes.
