John Vann, a retired Ball State professor and sustainability promoter, will discuss the electrification initiative accelerated by the Inflation Reduction Act. Electrification involves the replacement of fossil fuel applications (such as cars and natural gas ranges), with those powered by electrical technologies. Electrification reduces global-heating CO2 emissions and, in the home, eliminates indoor pollutants that threaten residents’ health. Most electrification replacements qualify for Federal Tax Credits, and some qualify for rebates. Electrification replacements also save homeowners money as they’re more efficient that fossil fuel applications.
John W. Vann is a Ph.D. Ball State Marketing Associate Professor Emeritus. John was a member of the task force that developed the Minor in Sustainability and served as its coordinator until his retirement and he taught many sustainability courses. He was a member Ball State Council on the Environment and the Ball State President’s Sustainability Working Group. He attended Al Gore’s first training program for Climate Presenters and has since give over 100 climate presentations. John, with his wife Carolyn (Ball State Biology Professor Emerita), are volunteer co-directors of the non-profit Solarize East Central Indiana initiative helping residents to get solar arrays for their homes. They recently have served as volunteers in teaching Afghan refugees English, with the New Castle Climate Action Team, and with Henry County RIPS which works to remove invasive plant species.
