Exploring the origins of the myth and the intersections with past and present anti-Asian violence, NOT YOUR MODEL MINORITY reveals the many ways the model minority myth has been used to create a wedge between communities of color and perpetuate divisive narratives. The film also examines opportunities to build power and make progress toward addressing systemic racism in America.

Directed by Jon Osaki, and a production of the Asian Pacific Islander American Health Forum & Stop Repeating History.  Winner of the Award of Excellence at the Best Shorts Competition (2021), the Impact Docs Award of Excellence (2022), The Accolade Global Film Competition Award of Excellence (2022), and an Official Selection at the Phoenix Film Festival (2022).

Amanda Nelson will facilitate discussion after the screening. Ms. Nelson is a master's student in the Student Affairs Administration program (SAAHE) at Ball State. She also serves as a graduate assistant and advisor to the Asian Student Union at the Multicultural Center.

The film is 30 minutes long and includes images of violence.
