Damita J. Williams Ed.D., MSN, RN, CPN, CENP
Dr. Damita Williams has served as the senior vice president and chief nursing officer for Medical City Plano, part of the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), since 2020. Prior to joining the leadership team in Plano, Dr. Williams held several chief nursing officer positions within HCA as well as across the country. In addition to her service in healthcare, Williams enjoys working as a dissertation committee member for Indiana Wesleyan University in the doctorate in organizational leadership program.
Dr. Williams has enjoyed a career in healthcare that spans over three decades with experience in a variety of care settings from privately owned for-profit organizations to large academic not-for-profit organizations. She enjoyed a dedicated clinical career focused on children and their families with a passion for care of complex surgical and cardiovascular surgery patients. As a leader she is known for transforming the culture of the organization and for developing leaders. Community service is another passion for her as she serves on the board of PediPlace in Lewisville, Texas the board of the Black Alumni Constituency Society for Ball State University, and the HCA Hope Fund Board. Williams also has served as the director of clinic operations for Hope International Ministries, Inc. medical missions to the Dominican Republic for over 15 years.
Dr. Williams has served nationally as a member of the Maternal Child Health Council for the American Hospital Association, the Diversity Council of the American Organization of Nursing Leadership, and as a mentor for the American College of Healthcare Executives. Locally, Williams served on the Education Committee of the North Texas Organization for Nursing Leadership. She is currently a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Organization of Nursing Leadership. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
She has received numerous accolades for her achievements. Williams was named Mentor of the Year for HCA’s Executive Development Program, Fort Worth Business Press Minority Leader in Business, Great 100 Nurses in Dallas-Fort Worth, Louise Batz Patient Safety Foundation Angel Award, Nurse Imagemaker Award in San Antonio, Women Who Lead Award in Detroit, Nightingale Award by Oakland University School of Nursing in Michigan, and the Outstanding Alumni Award from Ball State Nursing Alumni Association. Dr. Williams was also invited to the White House for a Discussion on Improving Care Quality and Patient Health.
Dr. Williams is a lifelong learner and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Ball State University, a Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration from the University of Saint Francis, a Master’s Degree in Advanced Leadership Studies from Indiana Wesleyan University and a Doctor of Education Degree in Organizational Leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University. She is nationally certified as a pediatric nurse and nationally certified in executive nursing practice. She and her husband John are adoption advocates, the parents of five children, and reside in Frisco, Texas.
