Application Terms: Summer, Fall 
Application Deadline: March 1
  • Applications received after March 1 may be reviewed after June 1, if vacancies remain in the program. Before submitting an application after March 1, please contact the graduate program to verify that openings are still available.  
To complete your application, you will need to upload the following required materials to your Cardinal Landing Portal:
 
  • Supplemental form: You will need to complete the supplemental form as part of your online application. You can access supplemental form(s) within your Applicant Status Portal. On the supplement form of your application, you will be asked to:
    • List the courses that will satisfy prerequisite coursework required for admission of either 24 quarter or 15 semester hours of undergraduate psychology courses completed. If you are uncertain about the acceptability of a course, or wish to have courses from related disciplines counted, contact the program director.
    • List and briefly describe up to three courses in which you demonstrated verbal ability and writing skills.
    • List and briefly describe up to three courses in which you demonstrated quantitative skills (e.g., math or statistics courses).
    • Answer the following questions:
      • What are your professional goals after completing the graduate program? Describe your position as you anticipate it in ten years?
      • For Clinical Mental Health applicants: Why are you interested in Mental Health Counseling?
      • For Rehabilitation applicants: Describe your experiences working with people with disabilities?
  • Two letters of recommendation: you will need to provide two letters of recommendation from professional or academic colleagues as well as the name and contact information for an additional reference. References from professors, research experiences, or internship supervisors are preferred.
  • Resume or curriculum vitae (most recent): please include your educational history; research experience; professional presentations to regional, state, or national conferences; employment or volunteer activities; and any honors and awards.
  • Statement of purpose:
    • academic objectives and how our program will help you meet them;
    • motivation for graduate study, including events that shaped your current career aspirations;
    • specific faculty members in our program who most closely represent your interests. Please note that affiliated faculty should NOT be identified for this purpose as they are not involved in the admission process.
  • Transcript/credential evaluation from your highest earned degree: learn more about our transcript/credential evaluation requirements
ACCEPTING ADMISSION
Admitted students must accept their admissions by confirming their enrollment via the Decision Reply Form available on the Application Status Portal by April 15 to start class in the Fall and the Thursday prior to start classes in the Summer.

Step Number 1

Carefully fill out all sections of the application, sign to acknowledge requirements, and submit the form.

Step Number 2

Once all required checklist items in your Cardinal Landing are received, your application is complete and ready for department review.

All graduate students complete the same application, but admission criteria depends on your program requirements.



International applicants to on-campus programs will be required to submit all application materials by the earliest of two deadlines: either the international application deadline or the graduate program deadline. Applicants to online-only programs must submit all application materials by two weeks before the start of term.

Your application must be completed at least two weeks before the start of the semester. Start of term dates can be found on our Academic Calendar. Some graduate programs have priority application deadlines. Please review your program of interest's requirements for more details.


After you apply 

International Graduate Students

Beginning Fall 2026, all on-campus, degree seeking students admitted to Ball State must confirm their enrollment by replying to the International Decision Reply Form in their Cardinal Landing portal. Please review our 5 Steps to Admission for detailed information on enrollment and arrival planning.

From the Cardinal Landing Portal, admitted students can accept their admissions offer via the Decision Reply Form, review their next steps to enrollment, and learn more about orientation. Admitted students must accept their offer of admission via the Decision Reply Form by the Thursday prior to the start of the term.
