Basic Wildland Firefighter Training (NWCG S130, S190, L180; FEMA IS100, IS700) and Work Capacity Test for Red-Card Certification

Training Rationale: This one-day workshop is designed for those interested in becoming qualified as a Type 2 Wildland Firefighter (FFT2) under the National Interagency Management System (NIMS). Online training modules include National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) S130, S190, L180 and Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) IS100 and IS700. In addition, students who successfully pass the physical fitness test (Work Capacity Test or “Pack Test”) earn the "Red Card", a requirement to work on forest fires at the national level and to participate on prescribed fires for some agencies and contractors. The NWCG FFT2 Certificate is good for 5 years. Red Card status needs to be renewed annually.

Training Description: Online training modules and computer self-study (approx. 32 hours) provides fundamental knowledge on wildland fire behavior, firefighting safety, and organizational control. The mandatory one-day field exercises (approx. 8 hours) provide hands-on practical experience for the entry-level wildland firefighter.

Prerequisites: Participants must be 18 years old by February 15, 2025. Online module completion certificates must be received by February 10, 2025 to participate.
