Research Focus: Intimate partner violence. Screening for intimate partner violence against pregnant women. Intimate partner violence among women with substance use disorder.

 

Potential Student Project(s):

 I will develop the research project, then come up with research questions and students will be able to participate under my guidance in developing the main components of a research i.e. introduction, problem statement, significance and research questions. I will mentor the students into writing these components of a research.  

The student will read journal articles and make summaries. I will mentor the students through this process include where to find the journal articles. 

I will mentor and teach the students on how to review and write literature reviews. The students' summaries will form part of the manuscript which I will guide them on where to include in a manuscript/report.

I will develop the posters for research presentation together with the students and teach them how to disseminate the results.

I will develop abstracts for the research presentation and mentor the students in writing an abstract.

 

Attributes/skills/background sought in undergraduate:

 Ability to write good grammatical sentences.

Ability to use the different research databases to identify articles.

Ability to critically think through a problem so as to develop research questions with the support of the mentor.

Be able to provide 5 hours per week. 

 

Mentoring Plan:

The student will be mentored and followed up on a weekly basis. There will be a close interaction with the students so as to establish a learning environment. 

The student researcher will commit to working 5 hours per week on the project, including a one-on-one weekly meeting for 1 hour either in-person or remotely.
