Mayor's Proclamation to Mark Celebration of Peace One Day 2003
Mayor Dan Canan of Muncie, Indiana has declared September 21st Peace Day in accordance with United Nations General Assembly Resolution 55/282 calling for a global cease fire and cessation of hostilities throughout the world for a 24 hour period. Over 3400 people die each day from armed conflict somewhere in the world. Never has there been a successful global cease-fire for the period of one day. Last September the Muncie Interfaith Fellowship met to begin plans for Celebrating Peace Day 2003. Activities this September will be sponsored by the Ball State University Center for Peace and Conflict Studies and are to include presentations at local public schools in the Muncie area.
