Step 1

Review the Admission Criteria

Students who wish to enroll in one or more courses as a non-degree-seeking graduate student must meet the following admission criteria:

1. Currently teach in either an:

underserved school corporation in Indiana
a school experiencing a shortage of qualified STEM teachers in Indiana

2. Hold an earned bachelor’s degree from a college or university that is accredited by its regional accrediting association.

3. Have one of the following grade point averages:

2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale for your undergraduate cumulative GPA (this includes all undergraduate coursework, including work completed prior to your bachelor’s degree)

For Students Considering a Degree Program

Nondegree students who later apply to a degree program must meet all entrance requirements of that program and must have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA in their nondegree coursework.

No more than nine credits earned in nondegree status may apply to an advanced degree program if you are later admitted as a degree-seeking student. The department in which you study and the dean of the Graduate School will determine which credits earned in nondegree status will apply to a degree program.

Credits must have been completed within the six-year time limit allowed for completion of a master’s degree.

Step 2

Complete the Application

Please follow the steps below to apply to the program.

Applications will be accepted until the program is full. However, spaces are limited so submit materials as soon as possible.

Fill Out the Online Applications

You will apply through both the Ball State University Graduate School’s online form and a separate online application for the academy itself.

When completing the application, apply as a “non-degree seeking student”

When prompted, choose the “fee waiver” option at the end of the application process and select the “Con Selmer” fee waiver

Add the following in the comments field: “Applying as part of the consortium teacher’s grant for dual-credit licensure; please waive my application fee.”

Submit Your Transcripts

Ball State must receive transcripts from all colleges and universities you attended (this includes dual credit courses earned while in high school) in order for you to be admitted to your program of interest.

You may provide unofficial or official transcripts when you apply.

official transcripts - Official transcripts are transcripts that Ball State University receives directly (electronically or by mail) from each institution that you attended. Official transcripts must bear the institution's seal, the date, and an appropriate signature.

unofficial transcripts - Unofficial transcripts show your college academic progress but are not official because they are provided by you. Often times, you are able to download these documents from the student portal of the institution(s) you have attended. These documents can be utilized by your program of interest to make a recommendation for admission. However, the admission process will not be completed until you submit final official transcripts from any institution(s) where you earned a degree, or any institution(s) where you are currently enrolled.

Upon completing your Graduate School application, you acknowledge that:

Your application is being reviewed based upon the information you provided.
You may be asked to provide an official transcript if further information is needed.

You do not need to submit Ball State transcripts.

Provide a Confirmation Letter

Ask your school principal to send a letter confirming that your school is considered underserved and/or is experiencing a shortage of STEM teachers.

Step 3

Register for Courses

After you’ve been accepted into our program, you will need to register for your courses.

Review the instructions.
Use the username and password you were sent by the Graduate School to log into MyBallState. Graduate Students taking online or on-campus classes will receive a username and password (credentials) from the Graduate School within four to seven days after acceptance. This will be sent to the email address you provided on the graduate application.
Search for and register for a course (see the instructions from Step 1).
After registering, you will receive access to your student account and Canvas online course portal.
