MASTER OF ARTS OR MASTER OF SCIENCE IN BIOLOGY
Formal faculty sponsorship is important in the process of granting assistantships to students applying to the masters in biology programs. A faculty member who wants you to work in his or her research program can promote your application for an assistantship. While applicants to the master of arts in biology program (course work, non-thesis) are eligible for an assistantship, applicants to the master of science in biology program (includes a thesis research project) who are sponsored by a faculty member are given preference.

After you have followed the recommendations in this document to prepare yourself, you should contact appropriate faculty members to determine if one of them would be willing and able to serve as your thesis research advisor. You should ask that faculty member if they would submit a sponsorship form in support of your application for an assistantship.
