Patrick
Collier is a writer and scholar living in Indianapolis. He is the director of the
Everyday Life in Middletown project, a collaboration with citizens of Muncie to document daily life, increase understanding of the ordinary, and create an archive for future historians. He retired in 2024 after twenty-four years at Ball State, during which he taught film studies and nineteenth- and twentieth-century British literature, served as chairperson of the English Department in the years of the global pandemic, and finally served as associate dean of the College of Sciences and Humanities, with emphasis on student success and inclusive excellence. His contributions in the dean’s office included roles in the founding of the department of Women’s, Gender, and African American Studies, the launching of the CSH Success Hub, and the creation of a team of pedagogy fellows to support teaching and learning in the college.
Dr.Collieris the author of two books and many articles on British modernism, with a focus on print culture and the literary marketplace. His most recent book is Teaching Literature in the Real World(Bloomsbury 2021), a combination memoir, manifesto, and how-to about literary pedagogy in higher education. He is now at work on a book about everyday life.
