School of Music students can work with professional academic advisors from the university’s Academic Advising Office. Our advisors are extremely knowledgeable about academic life and understand the unique experience of being a music student.

Undergraduate Students

The undergraduate advisor is centrally located within the School of Music offices so you can easily reach out for assistance as you navigate college life.

How They Can Help You

Academic advisors work with you to ensure that you not only understand the requirements of your degree, but together you build a customized roadmap to graduation.

Academic advisors may also assist with the exploration of minor areas of study, connect you to various campus resources, and serve as an overall campus resource.

We highly encourage you to visit with an advisor at multiple points throughout each semester.

Meet with Your Advisor

To meet with an advisor, you can stop by the MU 207 Administrative Suite during regular office hours to schedule an appointment. Walk-in appointments are also welcome and often available. Or, students can contact us directly:

Graduate students will also benefit from regular advising.

While the answers to many students’ questions can be found in the School of Music Graduate Student Handbook (PDF), we still encourage you to schedule in-person meetings with Dr. Jon Truitt, associate director of the School of Music.

Dr. Truitt works closely with students to ensure they understand all of the requirements for their degree, can navigate additional requirements unique to graduate students, and complete their degrees in a timely manner.
