At Ball State, 80 percent of our students are eligible for financial aid. The School of Earth, Atmosphere, and Sustainability offers several scholarships to help you pursue your bachelor’s degree.

Floy Hurlbut and Jim Leak Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was created to provide funds to geography students. Jim Leak began this fund made in memory of the late Dr. Hurlbut who established the Muncie Travel Service in 1952. Dr. Hurlbut was also a professor of Geography at Ball State for many years. The scholarship name was later changed to include Jim Leak’s name due to his death in 1992. This award is based on your grade point average (GPA) and on your service to the department

Robert H and Esther L Cooper Science Student Award

To be eligible for this award, you shall use neither tobacco nor alcohol in any form, nor any illegal drug, and shall be of good moral character. The selection for the award is to be made on the quality of the person rather than financial need or scholastic ability.

Dr. Thomas P. and Mary Grimes Fund for Meteorology and Climatology Awards

Students are encouraged to apply for these awards, given each year. There is one for academic performance and one for service to meteorology. 

Geology Scholarships
NREM Scholarship Application Forms are due by March 15 or the next business day. Submit them to the Department of Environment, Geology and Natural Resources, Fine Arts building, AR 117.
