About Alex Lukens

Alex Lukens is an Assistant Lecturer in the School of Journalism and Strategic Communication's Center for Emerging Media Design and Development (EMDD) and is Director of the undergraduate Digital Media minor.

Lukens’ research examines the impact of gimmicks and other forms of strategic communication at the intersection of film, media, and digital platforms.

Lukens is a visual storyteller, having written, produced, and/or directed four feature-length films, running the gamut from documentaries to horror films. He received an Idea Capital grant in 2015 to supplement a crowdfunded short film entitled High Fructose Suicide Booth, which was an official selection at numerous film festivals.

He has worked as a producer and director’s assistant for film and television in Atlanta, where he coordinated production necessities for films such as Sleepless and The Fundamentals of Caring, as well as television shows such as Stranger Things and The Vampire Diaries. Lukens also worked as an editor, videographer, and cinematographer on documentaries, industrials, and music videos.
