Health is shaped by more than biology—social structures, demographics, and public policies all play a role in determining health outcomes. The Health and Populations Concentration examines how social and demographic factors influence health disparities, aging, mental health, and population changes. Students will analyze health-related issues in both U.S. and global contexts, preparing them for careers in public health, research, and social services.
Students in this concentration take courses that explore the intersection of health and society, including topics such as the sociology of illness, mental health, aging, sexuality, and demographic change. They will gain the skills to assess population health trends, interpret demographic data, and evaluate how social inequalities shape access to healthcare and overall well-being.
Graduates pursue meaningful careers in case management, public health, and research, working as community health advocates, rehabilitation coordinators, research specialists, and program analysts. Whether working in healthcare settings, nonprofit organizations, or government agencies, students in this concentration develop the expertise to address critical health and population issues.
