SPECIAL INVITATION TO ATTEND

Dan Daugherty, Executive Director of the Alcuin Study Center will interview vocalist-composer Ruth Naomi Floyd at the E.B. and Bertha C. Ball Center with a reception to follow.

Ms. Floyd is part of the Frederick Douglass Jazz Works that was created in honor of Frederick Douglass (1818-1895), an enslaved African in America who escaped to freedom and became a leading orator, political activist, abolitionist, writer, banker, ambassador, theologian, and statesman. She sets Douglass’ words from speeches and essays to original jazz compositions. Illustrated through the art form of improvisational music, the Frederick Douglass Jazz Works illuminates the themes of tragedy, grief, despair, and injustice of American slavery but through the multi-faceted prism of hope, joy, perseverance, and triumph— all in Frederick Douglass’ own words.

Ms. Floyd will be performing at Pruis Hall on Thursday, February 22. See information below.

This reception is sponsored by the Alcuin Study Center, the Institute for the Study of Political Economy, and the E.B. and Bertha C. Ball Center.

Since there is limited seating for the February 23rd reception, please be sure to REGISTER soon.
